Once there was a very wise father and a foolish son who didn't realize how important his father's advice was...
The advice this father gave to his son was simple, straightforward, and clear...
"Son you are going on a mission soon; you should start riding your bike daily in preparation..."
The foolish son said to himself,
"I am strong enough, I will be fine, I don't need any extra help. "
The foolish son did not prepare neither did he listen to his father's advice...
The foolish son continues on his journey into the mission field going almost two whole months without even riding a bike. But eventually the day came almost unexpectedly when this foolish son went on exchanges to another area where neither he nor his companion for the day had permission to drive yet... so they biked and they biked and they biked.
In fact they almost biked 30 miles...
This foolish son quickly remembered the words and advice of his father and this foolish son wishes he would have listened and prepared by doing what his father had asked him.
We live in an amazing time where we receive so much guidance from the Father.
Our beloved Prophet has given us so much guidance just recently.
Let us all study his words and follow him,
for the Father of us all has commanded that we follow the Prophet.
We are asked to give talks, accept callings, serve missions, go to church, repent daily, be humble, meek, follow spiritual promptings.
And we should all do these things
and whatever else we are asked to do with gladness and a grateful heart!
For the things that the Father has asked us to do aren't even slightly close to what the Father asked our Savior and Redeemer to do.
One day my friends, the day will come when we will have to ride our bikes.
We will be sitting in the judgment seat and we will either be rejoicing for we had prepared each day for that exact moment... Or we will be wishing so incredibly bad that we could go back and listen to the words of the Father.
So in the words of my father who served his mission in Ireland and heard this phrase frequently;
On yer bikes lads...(and lassies)
I am meeting a lot of great people here in Oregon.
We are teaching and inviting people to come unto Christ and to come to church. Two of the people we are teaching came to church and now we have two that have set dates to be baptized as Jesus was.
I miss my family and home a lot but there is nothing I have experienced up to this point in my life that is as exciting as as fulfilling as missionary work. The amount of joy I feel each day makes it all worth it. I'm always tired but I'm always happy.
I love this Gospel of Jesus Christ with all of my heart-
I know that it has been restored to the earth today.
I know with an unshakeable assurance that The Book of Mormon is the word of God and that Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer.
