Disguise

Sight seeing in Mt. Angel at a really cool Abbey

My new companion, Elder Hansel was actually in my MTC group and we came to Oregon at the same time 4 months ago so it's been great hanging out with him again.

I am also now a district leader and one of my new responsibilities is I get to interview people for baptism.
It is an honor; I had my first interview with a stalwart guy who got baptized in March.  We took an investigator with us to his baptism and it was a great day!

Alma 18:27 "And he said, Yea"

This scripture has nothing to do with the message I want to share, I just like it ha.

Also before I share the message that I want to share, to put a smile on your face , in Mosiah 12:1 it reads, "And it came to pass that after the space of two years that Abinadi came among them in disguise..." Let us all take a brief moment to ponder and envision an old prophet in a disguise. What a great verse, and mental image.  I'm grateful President Nelson doesn't have to go around in a disguise.  General Conference was awesome, It was a really amazing weekend. It is our challenge now to live what we were taught and inspired to do.

Now onto the message that recently has been impressed upon my mind. I have been reading in Alma lately. In particular I have been reading the story of the 2000 "sons of Helaman." Also known as the 2000 stripling warriors. In this story there was one verse that really stuck out to me as I read it and pondered it's meaning. In Alma 56:10 it says "And I did join my two thousand sons, (for they are worthy to be called sons)..." In this verse we see that it is a great honor for Helaman to call these 2000 warriors his sons.
Upon realizing how great an honor it is to be referred to as a son, a thought and a question came to my mind. We are all by nature Sons and Daughters of God (D&C 76:24) but,
are we living in a way that qualifies us worthy to be called as such?

Christ set the perfect example on how to live a life worthy to be called a Son of God,
He lived a perfect life and because of the way He lived he was worthy of the title
"Only Begotten Son."

When we develop Christ like attributes we become more like Christ, The Son of God.
Thus we become more worthy to be called a Son or Daughter of God.

Later on in the Book of Alma, Helaman describes his "sons" in chapter 57:27 he says
"Now this was the faith of these of whom I have spoken;
they are young,
 and their minds are firm,
and they do put their trust in God continually."

This verse shows that these sons of Helaman had developed the Christ like attribute faith. Throughout there story we see examples of diligence, obedience, love, hope, and charity. The development of these attributes qualified them to be called by Helaman- his sons;
and an even greater honor, Sons of God.

I hope we all will strive to work towards developing Christ like attributes.
I long to one day hear the words of my Father saying
 "I have missed you. Welcome home, my son."
I hope hearing these words will be a goal that each of us have.

Oregon Skies and a wooden cross..

I know that our Savior lives, I know that he rose on the third day.
I know that because of our Savior, and
because He broke the bands of death, that
we will all live again.

I know that our Father in heaven loves each of us personally and knows where we are in life. He knows what is best for us and like we learned in General Conference, I know that His goodness is immediate. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
